Alex Cuts Steel on Latest Royal Navy Frigate

Alex was invited to Rosyth naval dockyard in Scotland to cut steel on HMS Active, the latest Type 31 frigate for the Royal Navy. The ceremony was attended by representatives from Poland, Indonesia, the USA, Denmark, Ireland and other nations - as well as Falklands veterans.

HMS Active will be a cutting edge, highly capable vessel and will become the backbone of the fleet’s global operations by the decade’s end.

It will intercept illegal activity, gather intelligence, provide humanitarian relief as well as having the ability to adapt  to the ever-evolving threats of the 21st century.

Alex was joined by Second Sea Lord Vice Admiral Martin Connell and Falklands' veterans who served on Active's immediate predecessor,

Writing on Facebook, Alex said:

"A privilege to cut steel today for our latest Type 31 frigate. HMS Active will be the twelfth ship of that name to serve in the Royal Navy and will be the most capable yet.

"It was moving to be joined by veterans of Active’s immediate predecessor which saw action in the Falklands War in 1982. They served with great skill and courage, and watched with pride as construction began on the new ship."
